Sometimes, the real breakthrough in a job search isn't found in a cover letter, but over a simple shared meal.
The story of Ali and his mentor Daniel perfectly illustrates how self-confidence and professional success are built first through listening and letting go.
How do you regain your confidence?
When he begins his search, Ali is incredibly eager, but he feels lost. Shy and deeply doubting himself, he struggles to define a clear plan.
The potential and motivation are certainly there, but he lacks a trusted guide to channel that energy and help him believe in his own abilities.
A mentor's doubts, the power of letting go
For Daniel, it's a first-time experience as a mentor, and the challenge ahead seems significant. Accustomed to a certain pace of progress, he initially asks himself a thousand questions about his young mentee : « Will this work? Will I be able to help him? Why isn't it moving faster? »
The turning point in their relationship happened when they least expected it. Instead of a standard work meeting, they decided to do... nothing formal. They simply shared a meal, talking about everything and nothing. This change of pace was a real revelation: the pressure to perform faded away, their individual rhythms aligned, and a genuine bond began to form.
Will it work?
By agreeing to take the time, Daniel learned not to judge too quickly and to practice patience. He discovered the true richness of mentoring and what it brings to the person providing the guidance.
"What you're giving me is huge, Ali. I'm proud of you."
- Daniel, mentor.
A professional and personal bond
Meeting after meeting, thanks to this strong connection, the fog began to lift. Ali clarified his career goals: he started training as a ventilation technician.
Daniel showed me the way
Success followed success with a first internship brilliantly completed and a second already lined up, opening the door wide to future employment.
Together, they moved forward, each growing in their own way.
"I didn't have any self-confidence; I was lost. Daniel showed me the way and taught me to trust myself, like a father guiding his son. Today, I feel good. I think back to our conversations, and it gives me strength."
- Ali, mentee.
